Event - 2023 Rugby World Cup
In september and october, France is the host of the Rugby World Cup and the city of Tours is very pleased to welcome the base camp of the Irish Rugby Team. Whether you are a supporter or just a tourist, hosted in Tours or wherever in the area, enjoy the time between matches of your favorite team with the discovery of the beautiful Cher Valley.
Straight from Tours, you will find a green valley along the river until the jewelry of the Renaissance : Chenonceau.
Events during the competition
As the Irish Team will stay in Tours, you can see a public training session on saturday 2 September 2023, 11 am (gates open at 10 am) at the Cher Valley stadium.
To share the atmosphere of the championship, a festival is organized to celebrate rugby with all the associations in Tours at the spotlight around the Bergeonnerie lake on Sunday 10 September.
Taste the french “art de vivre”
During all the competition, Geoffrey invites you to his tastings of wine, beer and local cheeses. This cheese maker, accustomed to english speaking visitors, will suggest you the best set of products.
Every sunday, you can taste wines and cheeses at Nitray’ castle.




Visit our castles
The Château de Chenonceau is one of the most famous castles of the Loire Valley. You can’t come to Touraine and miss its visit. The Great Gallery climbing over the river is unique.
Also, on the countryside, the small castle of Montpoupon is fully furnished and offer a nice walk on the domain. You may have briefly noticed it in the serie “Emilly in Paris”(S3E9).
For a bike tour
Only 30 km to Tours, Chenonceau is the end, but the trip is great ! You will follow the Cher River on the itinerary Coeur de France à vélo. It’s only bicycle roads, no sharing with cars, very smooth and you always stay next to the Cher. It’s the most family friendly itinerary of the area.
